The Good Life – A Sermon Series for 2018
This is the first sermon in a series that will continue throughout the year. If you were here last week, you might remember that we talked about The Good Life – from Jesus’ words in John 10:10.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
Eternal life is a gift. Salvation is a gift. Forgiveness is a gift that we receive from God. We don’t earn it and we can’t work for it. These things are not rewards or payment for a job that we completed. It’s a gift. We are saved by grace alone. The gift is freely given to all but each of us have to receive the gift and open it. We receive God’s gift of forgiveness and eternal life by believing in putting our trust in God. Once we’ve done that, is there anything more we need to do?
We cannot produce this good life; we can’t make this abundant life grow. God does that. He is the one who makes it happen but there is something we can do.
A farmer is helpless to grow grain; all he can do is provide the right conditions for the growing of the grain. He gets the ground ready, plants the seed and waters it but he doesn’t make it grow. He provides the necessary environment for growth.
The apostle Paul wrote,
“Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” (Gal 6:8).
We can sow to please our flesh or we can to please the Spirit. How do we sow to the please the Spirit? This sermon series will answer that question.
